CBMR Adventure Guides Program
|
Crested Butte Mountain Guides & Crested Butte Mountain Resort (CBMR) announce the creation of the new “Adventure Guides Program” that combines backcountry ski skills and education with guided in-bounds and out-of-bounds skiing. This new offering addresses the need for skier skills and education for guests wanting a different ski experience in Crested Butte. This program will offer participants the ability to get a sampling of 'beyond the chairlifts" skiing and riding by offering a multi-tiered program beginning on the ski resort and culminating with an all-day backcountry tour with a fully trained AMGA Ski Guide.
In taking the opportunity to learn more about backcountry skiing and safety, guests will be supplied for the day with a full avalanche kit backpack for exploring the mountain and the backcountry. Each pack will contain a transceiver, probe, and shovel and will be used in teaching and practicing the skills necessary for learning how to use backcountry / out-of-bounds specific gear. A new Mammut sponsored beacon training park will be utilized for tranceiver rescue and basic skinning and backcountry skiing skills will be introduced and practiced.

“With PSIA/AMGA Certified Guides running the program, the amazing terrain Crested Butte has to offer, and keeping it fun for the guest, it’s the perfect addition to our programs. Experienced guides will evaluate needs and ability to create a mountain experience guests will never forget. By getting them to explore some of the hidden powder patches on the lower mountain, it’s guaranteed fun. A partnership with Crested Butte Mountain Guides puts CBMR at the forefront of ski resorts offering this type of program."
“The Backcountry Guide offering is for people looking for an adventure outside the ski area. The first day will be spent on the mountain learning backcountry skills and equipment usage, such as skinning, transceiver practice, and safety procedures. The second day will be an adventure exploring the backcountry terrain and pristine powder in the area that Crested Butte Mountain Guides are permitted.” ---- says Nick Herrin, Ski and Ride School Director for CBMR
Crested Butte Mountain Guides is excited to be able to provide education, input, and an amazing experience for people wanting to try backcountry skiing in a safe and professional way, by utilizing the benefits of the ski resort to work on building a solid foundation of backcountry based skills. This program will offer guests a less intimidating more familiar avenue to get into the backcountry, or even just trying something new on skis.
