Alaska Ski Mountaineering
Chugach Mountains - Valdez, AK
April 16-20, 2010

Wanna ski like you're in the movies, but can't afford the budget of a heli-ski trip? Join Crested Butte Mountain Guides in the 'birthplace of helicopter-skiing' for a human powered ski trip to Alaska's famous Chugach Mountains. Our AMGA Certified Ski Mountaineering Guides will take you through some of the best ski terrain on earth, with glaciers, peaks, steeps, couloirs, and the world-famous 'Alaska Velvet' snow and skiing all available for the taking.
The Valdez, AK area still harbors a very laid back and unpretentious attitude focused on heli-skiing and ski mountaineering. Unlike committing all the time and energy to a heli-trip, however, we can guarantee ski time through ski touring, and days on end of being grounded due to bad weather is not an option, as our experienced and locally familiar guides can assure ski time no matter what the weather.

Stay in a quaint and local B & B in downtown Valdez, and relish in all the comforts of home while enjoying fresh meals of halibut, salmon, and the like. Then spend your days ski touring in the glacial alpine terrain off Thompson Pass, experiencing Alaskan mountain summits, ski descents of 4,000+ feet and a truly unique, wild, and unforgettable backcountry ski experience.

Participants need to be prepared for an average of 3,500' feet of climbing and skiing daily and have a minimum of intermediate ski skills. A day of assessment ski touring in the Crested Butte Area is highly recommended to ensure a fun, safe, and quality experience for everyone.

Potential for a 'heli-bump' out to more ski terrain via a glacial overnight camp exists for additional costs, and depends on weather, group, and availability
